Discover the Smokies: A Guide to Western North Carolina
Tourism brochure, circa 1970s
Picked up from a box of old travel pamphlets at the Bryson City library sale. Most of it is exactly what you'd expect—waterfalls, scenic drives, historical sites, cabins, weather warnings.
Check the back panel under "The Traveler's Code." The first three points are normal enough. The fourth isn't. See if you can find another tourism publication that tells visitors to accept local advice "without requiring an explanation."
Also worth noting: the line about places that "have not changed in a very long time" doesn't appear in the later editions.
