U.S. Forest Service Trail Advisory

U.S. Forest Service Trail Revision & Access Advisory
Pisgah National Forest, April 1992

Filed as a trail-maintenance notice, but read the lower-left section carefully. The Forest Service attributes the problems to fog, terrain, and local geology. Fair enough.

What caught my attention is how many separate explanations are needed at once: sudden fog, unreliable bearings, persistent disorientation, missing trail markers, and routes being removed from maps. Taken individually, none are remarkable. Together, they describe the same problem from several directions.

The handwritten note beside this section suggests at least one ranger had firsthand experience with it.
